chinning bar

In addition to doing the exercises in the book, does hanging from a chinning bar help? It sure seems to be stretching my back, de-compressing the spine. What about inversion platforms, where you lie upside down for a bit to de-compress the spine?
Thank you so much, Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

Hanging from a bar and using inversion tables, etc. are all working toward the same goal: decompressing the spine.  We absolutely love that goal as well.  The only issue with some of these approaches is they can be too aggressive for many people, especially those with injured or very sensitive backs.  Using your own body weight to pull or stretch your back may cause your back to react adversly and go into spasm.  We prefer a gentler approach.  For example Stretchsitting or Stretchlying is a small amount of stretch over a long period of time (think about how much we sleep each day).  In gentle traction the body can get used to being elongated for the whole day!

I hope this is helpful to you!

Warmly,
