Tallstanding for Work

Hello!

I have an electric sit-stand desk and alternate positions throughout the day. Before taking the Gokhale Method Foundation's Course, I noticed my shins became sore with the set-up and started wearing Crocs to provide a softer platform. The shin pain increases while standing, but is sometimes present with my Focal chair (see pictures below). I try to keep my weight centered on my heels and rib anchor engaged. I have tried using a fatigue mat for standing but found that more painful.

Any suggestions? Thank you for your suggestions and help!

Hello!

Thank you for reaching out to us for some advice.  I would suggest trying the tibialis anterior exercise to strengthen the front of the leg more (toe tap).  Also, make sure you are kidney bean shaping the foot and perhaps working on strengthening the foot muscles on a daily basis.  I think crocs are a good idea for you.  Maybe try sneakers with some arch supports here and there which could be helpful as well.  For me, I feel that a cushioned sneaker with arch supports takes pressure off of the feet when standing on a hardwood surface all day.  It looks to me, from your pictures that you may be parking the weight more forward on the heels than you think. Remember to keep a soft groin, which appears slightly locked in the first image.  If you have tight calf muscles, the lower part of the leg could tight altogther.  Stretching the calves, rolling the feet using a tennis ball, etc. would work well.

Hi Lauren!

Thank you for all your detailed feedback! Do you have any shoes that you like for standing on hardwood? I have tried many without success. I will certainly try the strengthening and stretching exercises too!

I love Skechers memory foam (sport active) ones to wear around the house, slip ons. I have fairly strong feet but a history of plantar fasciitis and the arch works well for me.  I think most skechers are relaxing, comfortable and not too clunky.  When I run I wear Ghost Brooks running shoes. Started running about 3 years ago and have owned about 8 pairs now...I'l probably never switch!
